Many people will be familiar with the name of Tuscany, made famous by books and movies. We used our four-bedroom house as a homebase, and took daytrips to some of the smaller cities in the area almost every day. Thank you, Jill and Stefana and brother Mitch, for being our tour guides.
Our first day out was to Cortona for a special visit to the Diocesan Museum (Museo Diocesano).
My sister picked this city to visit because she was especially interested in seeing the artwork by Fra Angelico. I'm so glad we went - it was absolutely beautiful! The following day we went to Siena, and at the end of the week, off to Florence.
On Wednesday, the family split up into two groups. Some of us went to tour a winery in Montefalco while others (like me) stayed closer to the house. Stefana's brother, Greg, is a marathon runner and we went out to look for places "close" to the house where he could run. Right around 1 pm, everything closed down and didn't open again until 3. So we took a walk around the town and along the shoreline. Then we jumped in the car and headed up to the mountains. We found some trail maps along the side of the road, which were helpful.
Italy has so many beautiful spots, it's hard to choose where to go. I'm glad we decided to do some additional touring, after we left the Hill Country. But our time spent there was well worth it.

That first photo is gorgeous! Oh to live in a villa and look out upon that sight everyday!! Love the old building too -- and the way the brick shows through!
I believe Cortona is where the author Frances Mayes lives. Hope you got a chance to enjoy that Tuscan sun.
Thanks for the mini-tour. I need to do the BIG one myself!

The view in the first picture is so gorgeous! I can imagine how hard it is narrowing down where to go when you're there. Too many great options!

Thanks for sharing your trip photos! Makes me want to go back... soon! Love the tie in to "H"... Seems like there would always be something new to explore in a country like Italy.
