Internet Artisan Interview - Abyssal Gems

I'm trying to remember where I first met Debbie, creator of Abyssal Gems. We're both jewelry artists on Etsy, so that's probably it. Actually, she sells more than just jewelry - I hadn't realized that. I think we first met at the Etsy Artist Lounge. Lately, I keep seeing her avatar pop up on Facebook, where we're friends. • What's the name of your business/shop?

• If you have a website or blog, what do you use for advertising? What do your avatars look like?

I'm literally scattered all over the internet so my blogsites are my advertising tools.

• Do you have a registered domain name and/or a blog?

• What are you working on right now? Any sketches?

I don't do sketches of my creations. I create from memory. I get an idea in my head and I run with it :-)

• If you have a website or blog, tell us about your favorite widget?

My favorite widget currently is twitter.

• Which online selling vendors do you use? What do you like best about each one?

I normally use etsy. When I'm out and about, I go to Michaels arts and crafts or the local bead shops.

• Are you involved in social networking? What's your favorite and why? If you're not involved, you must have a good reason!

Yes, I am involved in social networking. lol. ALOT! lol. its hard for me to narrow it down to one site because I love them all!

• All of us can use a helpful business hint once a week. What's yours?

Advertise as often and as much as you can and also check out local craft shows in the area you live! Craft shows are another way to get your art out into the public as well as your business name!

• Do you have a "modus operandi" for computing the price of a handmade object? Tell us your formula?

I go by what it costs to make my creations.

• We'd love to see your little corner of the world, where you create.

Mostly in my bedroom. That's where most of (if not) all my creativity lies.




(note: the closest photo I could get to Debbie's home was her brother modeling her scarves. Couldn't tell if he was pleased with the idea...)

• Where do you see your artwork in one year? Any plans in the works?

Still on etsy and being worn on people everywhere!

I'm not particularly into gothic jewelry, but I liked Debbie's rings, especially her button ring. And the crocheted items - I had no idea!
