but I FINALLY started my beadweaving lessons.
I decided not to crochet the beads -
didn't want to do that in the first place -
never was very good at using two sticks at one time.
I knew there had to be another way. SO

I got a needle and taught myself the peyote stitch. And used one stick. A chopstick! After a few hours, and many starts, something finally took shape - a rope!
I've seen keychains made with this stitch,
so I ended the beading before I messed up big time.

The perfect small project.
The beads look like they "relaxed" a bit. At least I know how to start and stop the rope.
I plan to keep the keychain and see how long it holds up! Will keep you informed...
(update: I think the cord I placed down the center was smaller than the chopstick. So I decided to put the beads back on the chopstick! Think it looks much better. I also used the "female" side of a barrel clasp on the end of the stick, where I will attach the ring. Lesson learned... or do we call that trial and error!?

Good luck! Things like that leave me totally lost. Better left to those with the mad skilz. ;)
I'm very impressed with your first try! It turned out beautifully! I've been wanting to try beadweaving but I'm not sure I can do it. I'll add it to my list of summer projects to try though!
Try working over top of a rolled up piece of felt or leather. The more you do it the better it gets so that eventually you get to know how the beads and thread will react and what you like. I make peyote keychains all the time and they are very popular on the powwow circuit. You did better then I did on my first try.
looks great. I'm about to try my hand at some beading too...I'll try to have "backup" ideas for my own "trial & errors" :)
Good for you! I love trying new techniques...and getting such great results :)
I'm going to share this with my DD. She loves bead weaving.
Great job! I wish you all the best~
Lovely! Look forward to seeing how your work progresses :) Although to my eye it looks perfect! LOL.
Hooray for beadweaving! What a cute little key chain.
very nifty!
Congrats! You did awesome work :)
Beadweaving will become therapy for you is it has not already!
If you had not told us this was your first try I would not have known.
Question? What is the purpose of the stick or rolled felt when working with the peyote stitch? Maybe you can learn me sumphin...
