August, Osage County by Tracy Letts, was one, depressing story! It's about a dysfunctional family living in northeastern Oklahoma. One New York Times critic said,
"A tremendous achievement in American playwriting: a tragicomic populist portrait of a tough land and a tougher people."
The story also won the 2008 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, and I've heard many accolades about the Broadway play. It was chosen by a book club I knew, so I decided to pick it up, and see what all the hoopla was about. And I was going to put the book down several times, but just had to go on reading. Maybe because I live in Oklahoma, I felt an obligation to finish it. Maybe because I just have a hard time putting books down once I start!
I thought it was a little slow in the beginning, but once the family got together in the house, watch out!
